MEET THE HIDO FAMILY
North Coast Jiu-Jitsu Club is one of the only academies in northeast Ohio owned and operated by a family of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts – all trained under Professor Pedro Sauer, one of the most respected instructors in the world.
OUR STORY
In 2003, Paul Hido searched the Youngstown area for a way to learn effective self-defense while staying fit and active. He discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – and he was hooked.
By 2004, Paul had his two sons, PJ and Kyle, training alongside him. The Hido family never stopped.
Coming up through the Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association, the family found their passion for teaching after helping establish an academy in Youngstown in 2005. After relocating to the Cleveland area, they opened North Coast Jiu-Jitsu Club – bringing their lineage, experience, and love for the art to the Nordonia Hills community.
Today, all three Hidos hold Black Belts under Professor Pedro Sauer and personally run most classes at North Coast. In addition, they have a staff of highly qualified, skilled, and effective adjunct instructors who are adept at teaching and communicating.
The school recently moved into a brand new 6,000 square foot facility – one of the nicest training spaces in northeast Ohio – and continues to grow with over 130 students training under their guidance.
PAUL HIDO

Paul is the patriarch of the Hido family and co-founder of North Coast Jiu-Jitsu Club. He earned his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2017 and teaches youth and many adult classes.
Paul also handles the administrative and accounting duties of running the school. Before embarking on his business career, he served as a Police Officer for a suburban Cleveland department, giving him a real-world perspective on practical self-defense.
Paul’s professional background includes roles as Controller, VP of Finance, and CFO. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Accounting and Finance at several colleges in northeast Ohio. He continues to work as a CFO on a consulting basis.

PJ HIDO

PJ rounds out the Hido family’s presence on the mat. Having trained alongside his father, Paul, and brother Kyle since 2004, PJ brings the same dedication to technique, self-defense, and student development that defines the North Coast experience.
OUR LINEAGE: PROFESSOR PEDRO SAUER
All three Hido family members earned their Black Belts through the Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association. Professor Sauer is one of the most well-known and respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors in the world. His emphasis on technical precision, leverage-based technique, and practical self-defense is the foundation of everything we teach at North Coast.
